A Lifelong Connection With Animals
I’m Rita, a veterinarian and American Akita breeder with more than 30 years of experience in veterinary practice in Lithuania and Canada.
My life with animals began long before I became a veterinarian. Although I grew up in the city, much of my childhood was spent at my grandmother’s farm, where I was surrounded by animals every day. Those early experiences created a connection with animals that has stayed with me throughout my life.
They also shaped the way I came to understand animals—not simply as pets or working animals, but as living beings with individual needs, personalities, and well-being that deserve to be understood and respected.
That early connection eventually led me to pursue veterinary medicine.

From Veterinary Medicine to American Akitas
After graduating from the Veterinary Academy, I began my career in veterinary practice, initially working with cattle. This experience gave me a strong foundation in animal health, nutrition, preventative care, and well-being.
Over the years, my love for dogs grew, leading me to discover the American Akita. I was immediately drawn to the breed’s strength, dignity, intelligence, loyalty, and independent character.
The more I learned about American Akitas, the more passionate I became about understanding their health, temperament, and what it takes to raise a well-balanced, healthy dog.
